Grandpa's Barn
Oil on Canvas, 11x14
Grandpa worked the fields behind the barn with a mule and plow. When he passed away, the family farm was sold, and the house torn down. All that is left standing is the old barn, and it holds dear memories as a favorite place to play for his daughter and grand daughter. The grand daughter thought about having a painting made of the barn as a special gift for her mother. For years, she toyed with the idea, and even snapped a photo of it. When she saw Gwen's work at an arts festival, she knew that the time had come to have the portrait done. "I just knew when I saw your work, that you were the one that I had been looking for! I knew it was time to have the portrait painted." Working from her memories and request to brighten up the scene with spring greenery, Gwen preserved the rustic character of the barn, and brought it back to life. The old plow is even back in the shed. Here is what the client had to say about the finished piece: "This is amazing! You did a fabulous job. When I first saw the painting my immediate thought was 'Wow - that is it!' You captured the personality of the barn perfectly. It is so much like what I remember as a child - even down to the corn field behind it!" The portrait was given as a Christmas present to her mother.
